About me? No really, let’s talk about you. Or better yet, please let me photograph you! Yes, I’d like that much better.

I’ve always loved cameras and photography. I really enjoy pouring over photographs and artwork of any era. But, I’m also a science geek wannabe (Biology, Chemistry, Astronomy, and I have a love-hate relationship with Physics). Also, the emphasis is on the word wannabe. I still want to be an astronaut when I grow up.  And I love the Bible and God and Creation. I don’t really find them mutually exclusive and even science is creative. I love that Christ didn’t conform to anyone’s box or genre, He just didn’t fit anyone’s mold except to do what He came to do– to love and die for love. I’m also a knitter and I love yarn; bright beautiful colorful yarns. It’s the textures that get me. I also love to show texture in my photographs and try to capture their essence.  I think because I’m also a very tactile sort of person that the sense of touch in photography is important. You can touch the photo or the monitor and it won’t “feel” like the actual location of the photo but I hope it conjures up a sense of what it feels like.

The senses. Man! What a beautiful gift we’ve been given. To touch, smell, hear, see, taste. I would include feeling and perceiving among them. While you can’t touch the sounds of music you can feel them. While you can’t hear the sounds in a photograph you can perceive them. I think that is why I love photography so much–the ability to relate information that delights the senses.

What else delights me?  My family. My boys delight me! My friends. Listening to a really awesome Bible study delights me. Random things. Abstracty things. Whimsical things. Architectural things. Good literature delights me. Getting lost in new places delights me, because when you are lost you perceive them so much more. Speaking of being lost, maps and cartography have always delighted me. I used to be a G.I.S. nerd. Encyclopedias and dictionaries are interesting and can be politically amusing. Politics don’t delight me though. Yet the priviledge of voting delights me. People delight me, strangers or old friends, young ones & elderly ones, random connections. Data and lists delight me; they aren’t just numbers there are real relationships there! Really. All these things are delightful and gratifying to me. Of course there are others but I guess these are the ones that consistently have delighted me.
